Cooperation and Development Network Eastern Europe (CDN) is happy to announce an open call for new members of the digital [x] working group. We are looking for interested and motivated people who want to discover everything connected to digitisation, how it affects us, how we can affect it and how we can actively use it for society’s benefit.
Right now we want to work on digital rights, data protection, open culture and knowledge (including FOSS*), digital privacy and security. Once we have our new members on board we can expand the scope and add new topics based on your interests and ideas. Our mission/main goal is to accommodate the needs and interests of our group members and CDN member organisations.
Who are we?
CDN is a network of Young Greens in Eastern Europe. We have 17 member organisations in Eastern Europe and 7 partner organisations in Central and Western Europe. Since 2003, we are organising educational activities with Green activists on various topics such as ecology, gender equality, social justice, democracy, human rights, peace building, Green economy and many others. Digital [x] is the CDN working group focusing on digital themes. Working groups serve to explore specific topics and help member organisations with skills and expertise.
Why do we do it?
We at CDN believe that Green ideas can be applied to all aspects of our lives. For young people much of their life is digital today and happens online, and it is therefore essential that Green youth actively shape this new digital sphere. We believe that many of the new forms of cooperation and open culture that have emerged during the last years can help us build and shape the world we want to live in, both digital and not.
Everyone interested can join – whether you’ve been a nerd for years or you’ve just gotten fascinated by the possibilities of the internet – this is your place. A few of us already have some knowledge of the topics and we will be happy to share that (we’re all about free culture and knowledge!). In this working group you can learn more about the topics, implement your own ideas with like-minded people and, most importantly,
simply have fun.
If you are interested in working in a Green international environment on interesting digital topics please fill out the following form until 17th May. Feel free to ask us anything and to spread the call!
* CDN set up the Open Source Initiative in 2013 to promote Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) and to discover and develop FOSS tools useful for youth activism. This working group has organised and participated in a number of events and workshops. In our work we have realised that it is important to work not only exclusively on topics connected to free and open software but to cover a larger range of topics related to digitisation and the internet.
